In the urban landscape

One of the fastest-growing maples, the silver maple is ideal when shade is needed quickly: within a few years it forms a broad, luminous crown. It prefers moist soils and generous spaces such as parks, large gardens and green corridors along watercourses.

Did you know?

It owes its name to the silvery-white underside of its leaves: when the wind lifts them, the whole crown seems to sparkle. In North America its sap was once used to make syrup, like its better-known cousin the sugar maple.
