The purple foliage of the 'Pissardii' plum provides colour contrast that lasts all season, not just at bloom time: ideal for punctuating avenues, car parks and communal gardens. It flowers very early, often in February, announcing spring to the city.
It is named after Monsieur Pissard, the French gardener to the Shah of Persia, who discovered it in Tabriz in 1880 and sent it to France: within twenty years it had conquered gardens the world over.
